Ashok Lavasa resigns as Election Commissioner
Ashok Lavasa is set to join the Philippines-based Asian Development Bank as vice-president next month.
Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa, who was next in line to head the poll panel, resigned on Tuesday to join the Philippines-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) as vice-president next month.
Lavasa has presented his abdication to President Ram Nath Kovind and has mentioned being diminished on August 31. The Indian Express couldn’t affirm if the President has acknowledged his acquiescence. Press Secretary to President Ajay Kumar Singh told this paper he doesn’t know about the turn of events.

He will succeed VP Diwakar Gupta, who is responsible for private area tasks, and open private associations. Gupta finishes his term on August 31.

Lavasa still has more than two years left in his term at the Election Commission of India. He would have resigned as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in October 2022.
