BJP fields 8 candidates for Rajya Sabha polls in UP
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, former Ballia MP Neeraj Shekhar, party general secretary Arun Singh and former DGP Brij Lal among the BJP nominees for the Rajya Sabha election.
In a surprising move, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced only eight candidates for the November 9 Rajya Sabha (RS) polls from Uttar Pradesh. The decision went against the popular perception that the party would make a bid for a ninth seat also as it did in 2018. The biennial elections will be held for a total of 10 seats from the state.
Two years prior, notwithstanding not having the numbers, the gathering had prevailing with regards to guaranteeing the success of its ninth Rajya Sabha candidate and halted the Bahujan Samaj Party chosen one from winning.
This time, except if the BJP springs a very late astonishment by handling a ninth candidate, its choice would help the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which has handled a candidate regardless of not having enough numbers all alone to guarantee its triumph, political specialists said.
Tuesday is the last date for documenting assignments for the Rajya Sabha political race.
The BJP held its three sitting Rajya Sabha individuals from UP – Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri, previous Ballia MP Neeraj Shekhar, child of late Prime Minister Chandrashekhar and gathering general secretary Arun Singh – whose term would terminate on November 25.
Among others, the BJP agreed to previous UP minister Haridwar Dubey, three-time MLA Seema Dwivedi, the two Brahmins and previous chief general of police Brij Lal, a Dalit. The line-up incorporates two OBCs — previous Auraiya area head of BJP Geeta Shakya just as BL Verma, the current UP BJP VP and administrator of state development and foundation advancement company restricted.
For a by and large win, every candidate requires 36 votes. The BJP with 305 administrators in the UP gathering is set to guarantee the success of eight candidates. It would in any case have 16 overflow casts a ballot left to make a potential offer for the ninth RS seat.
“Starting at now, there are only 10 candidates in the brawl for the same number of opportunities from UP and except if there is a challenge, every one of the 10 would win,” a BJP pioneer conceded.
“On the off chance that the BJP fields a ninth candidate, it would imply that the BSP would need to rely upon the Congress, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and potentially the Samajwadi Party too for helping its candidate win. Perhaps, the gathering’s move may be pointed toward thwarting any opportunity of resistance solidarity,” said Irshad Ilmi, a veteran columnist.
The BSP has 16 MLAs in the UP gathering against most outstanding opponent Samajwadi Party’s 48 MLAs.
“Every candidate would require 36 decisions in favor of an altogether win,” said an authority of the UP get together secretariat. Hence, aside from BJP that has 305 MLAs in the state gathering and can without much of a stretch get eight candidates chose, just the SP is ready to guarantee the triumph of its candidate. The current quality of the UP get together is 395. Eight seats are lying empty. Bypolls are planned on November 3 for seven of these seats.
