The controversy over donations received by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) continues to grow. BJP’s social media in-charge Amit Malviya today alleged that the foundation was founded by fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi in 2014-15. He tweeted that a case of fraud was filed against Choksi in Karnataka in 2015 but no charge sheet was filed till his country absconded. The Congress government was there during this period. He asked whether the donation to RGF does not mean protection money?
According to the allegations, the name of Navsiraj Estates Private Limited is included in the donation of the RGF annual report. Mehul Choksi is the director of this company. It is noteworthy that Mehul Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi are the main accused in the Rs 14,000 crore Punjab National Bank scam. The watchdog fled the country in 2018 as soon as this scam was exposed and he took citizenship of Antiga.

Accused of receiving donations from China
Earlier, BJP National President JP Nadda alleged that the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Embassy in India have funded the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of the RGF and its board also includes former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi.
According to the annual report of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, in 2005-06, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received donations from the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Embassy as two separate donors. According to some estimates, donations between 2004 and 2006 were $ 2 million, and between 2006 and 2013, $ 9 million.
