China Hands Over 5 Indians Who Went Missing From Arunachal
The five men who had been missing since September 1 were hunters, the army had said in a statement. Their families and locals, however, said they were porters.
Five men, who went missing from villages near the border with China earlier this month, have been handed over to India by China’s People’s Liberation Army or PLA, the army said.
After the handover occurred in the Chinese domain early today, the men arrived at the Indian side and entered Arunachal Pradesh through Kibithu outskirt post toward the evening.
“People will currently be isolated for 14 days according to COVID-19 convention and will from that point be given over to their relatives,” the military said in an announcement.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu tweeted, saying he is “completely happy” to realize that the five men have been given over, and expressed gratitude toward the administration and the military.
“The Chinese PLA has affirmed to the Indian Army to hand over the young people from Arunachal Pradesh to our side. The giving over is probably going to happen whenever tomorrow for example twelfth September 2020 at an assigned area,” Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had tweeted on Friday.
