Civil Services Exams Can’t Be Postponed Over COVID, UPSC To Supreme Court
The civil services exam was rescheduled to October 4 due to the coronavirus pandemic. 20 civil services aspirants had approached the Supreme Court, seeking for the crucial exam to be deferred by two to three months.
The civil services exam scheduled on October 4 cannot be postponed over the coronavirus crisis, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) told the Supreme Court today. The top court was hearing a request seeking the postponement of civil services exam.
The court today asked the UPSC – the focal selecting office for arrangements to and tests for different common administrations of the legislature – to document its oath by tomorrow and will hear the case again on October 23.
The test, which was prior planned on May 31, was rescheduled to October 4 because of the pandemic.
20 common administrations applicants had moved toward the Supreme Court, looking for the urgent test to be conceded by a few months because of the flood circumstance in a few pieces of the nation just as COVID-19.
The applicants said that the common administration test, being an enrollment assessment, is totally unique in relation to a scholarly assessment, and in case of its deferment, there would not be any inquiry of deferral or loss of any scholastic meeting.
The solicitors said holding the tests at such a period “is nothing else except for putting lives of lakhs of youthful understudies (counting candidates thus) at most extreme danger and peril of malady and demise”.
One of the solicitors, the dad of an applicant, told the court that his child is an official with the administration and that because of the substantial remaining task at hand due to COVID, he couldn’t withdraw and plan for the test, while the others figured out how to remain at home and get ready well.
A few other significant tests, including the NEET clinical placement test and the JEE for admission to the IITs, which also were delayed due to COVID-19, have just been held.
