During debate, Donald Trump refuses to condemn white supremacy
Donald Trump dodges and deflects when asked to condemn white supremacists and tells the Proud Boys to ‘Stand back and stand by.’
US President Donald Trump was asked whether he would condemn white supremacists and militia groups during the first presidential debate in the US city of Cleveland on Tuesday. Instead of directly answering the question, Trump instead blamed the months of violence in US cities on “left-wing groups”.
“Are you willing this evening to denounce racial oppressors and civilian army gatherings and to state that they have to remain down and not add to the brutality or the quantity of these urban communities as we saw in Kenosha, and as we’ve found in Portland?” arbitrator Chris Wallace asked Trump.
“I would state nearly all that I see is from the left-wing, not from the right,” Trump reacted. “I’m willing to do anything. I need to see harmony.”
“At that point do it, sir,” Wallace asked Trump before his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, ringed in.
“Do it, do it. Let’s assume it,” said Biden.
Trump shot back: “You need to call them. What would you like to call them? Give me a name.”
Biden stated, “Glad Boys,” alluding to a traditional gathering.
“Glad Boys. Remain back and hold on,” reacted Trump. “In any case, I’ll listen for a minute, someone must take care of Antifa and the left since this isn’t [a] traditional issue … . This is a left-wing issue.”
Antifa adherents have showed up at against prejudice fights, however there has been little proof behind Republican cases that Antifa individuals are to be faulted for the viciousness at such fights. Trump scandalously said there were acceptable individuals “on the two sides” after a racial oppressor rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that prompted the demise of a counter-nonconformist.
He later explained that he was not “discussing the neo-Nazis and the white patriots, since they ought to be denounced absolutely – yet you had numerous individuals in that bunch other than neo-Nazis and white patriots” that “were there to guiltlessly dissent”.
Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris reacted after the discussion revealing to US telecaster CNN: “I heard what we as a whole heard. The leader of the United States in the time of our Lord 2020, won’t denounce racial domination.”
