Serena will face Shelby Rodgers in the quarter-finals. He defeated Lehla Annie Fernandez of Canada 6–2, 7–5. Serena has reached the quarter-finals of her first tournament since February.

Serena and Venus had a previous match at the 2018 US Open. Serena then defeated Venus 6–1, 6–2 in the third round of the tournament. Serena has won 10 of the last 12 matches between the two.
