Income tax return filing deadline for FY20 extended till Dec 31
The deadline for filing returns by individual taxpayers for FY 2019-20 has been extended by a month till December 31, the finance ministry said on Saturday.
For those taxpayers whose records should be reviewed, the Income-Tax Return documenting cutoff time has been stretched out by two months till January 31, 2021.
The legislature had in May expanded the date for documenting ITR for FY2019-20 from July 31 to November 30, to give consistent alleviation to taxpayers.
In an announcement, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) stated, “The due date for the outfitting of Income Tax Returns for the taxpayers [for whom the due date (for example prior to the augmentation by the said notice) according to the Act was July 31, 2020] has been stretched out to December 31, 2020.”
The due date for the outfitting of ITR for the taxpayers, who are needed to get their records reviewed (for whom the due date according to the I-T Act is October 31, 2020), has been stretched out to January 31, 2021, it included.
The CBDT said the cutoff times have been reached out so as to “give more opportunity to taxpayers to the outfitting of Income Tax Returns”. PTI JD MKJ
