Kerala gold smuggling case: Senior IAS officer suspended

The Kerala government on Thursday suspended senior IAS officer M Sivasankar, who was the principal secretary to the Chief Minister, over his alleged links with gold smuggling via diplomatic cargo to the UAE Consulate here.
Declaring the choice, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the media, “The lead of the IAS official (Sivasankar) was found infringing upon the administration rules. He was suspended dependent on a report from a two-part board of trustees headed by the main secretary. The departmental request against Sivasankar will proceed and additionally move will be made dependent on the request.”
Sivasankar, 57, was presented the IAS in 2000. After the pirating racket — being examined by the NIA and Customs — became exposed on July 5, Vijayan had expelled Sivasankar from his post. The choice to suspend him came two days after Customs addressed him for nine hours, looked through his premises, and found that he had kept up close connections with supposed individuals from the carrying racket.
After he was expelled as head secretary to the CM, Sivasankar had gone on leave. In any case, the Opposition had been requesting his suspension.
Sivasankar’s name came up after Customs captured Swapna Suresh, a previous official secretary at the UAE Consulate, regarding the seizure of 30 kg of gold from load routed to the Acting Consul-General. Resistance pioneer Ramesh Chennithala said the CM had to make a move against Sivasankar in the wake of understanding that the test would prompt him (Vijayan). “Sivasankar enjoyed national exercises with the intrigue of the Chief Minister. The test should cover the Chief Minister’s Office,” said Chennithala.
