Pakistan gave the opportunity to appeal
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said late Wednesday evening that the appeal and review petition could be filed by Jadhav or his legal representative or India’s Counselor Officer in Islamabad. Earlier, Pakistan had said that Kulbhushan Jadhav, an Indian prisoner facing the death penalty, has refused to file an appeal in the Islamabad High Court against the conviction by the military court. However, India has termed Pakistan’s claim as ‘farce’.
What is Consular Access?
Please tell that in April 2017, the Pakistani military court sentenced him to death on ‘espionage and terrorism’ charges. A few weeks later, India moved the ICJ challenging Jadhav’s diplomatic access and the death penalty. In fact, according to the ‘Vienna Convention on Consular Relations’ treaty of the United Nations, made in 1963, if a citizen of another country is arrested on charges of espionage or terrorism, then he is allowed to meet his country’s diplomat Cannot be given. Pakistan was not allowing consular access to India on the basis of this because it claims that Jadhav is an Indian spy. However, India rejects this charge and therefore seeks consular access.
