Odisha CM dials PM Modi, requests postponement of NEET, JEE exams
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled medical and engineering entrance exams — NEET and JEE (Main) — in September.
Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone and requested him to postpone NEET and JEE exams, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and the flood situation in the state, the Chief Minister’s Office said.
Two days back, the main priest had composed a letter in such manner to Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.
Patnaik, during his discussion with the leader, clarified that Odisha is in the grasp of a pandemic just as flood and understudies may confront troubles in showing up for the assessments, an authority at the central clergyman’s office told journalists.
Patnaik, in his letter to Nishank on Tuesday, had asked the Center to make strides for delaying the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) as it “will be risky for understudies to truly show up for the tests in the midst of the pandemic”.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has planned clinical and building selection tests – NEET and JEE (Main) – in September.
Around 50,000 understudies in Odisha are set to show up for NEET, and more than 40,000 for JEE (Main), authorities said.
