Parliament Passes Jammu And Kashmir Official Languages Bill
Replying to a debate on the Bill, Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said it was a long-standing demand of the people of Jammu and Kashmir that the language they speak should be included in the list of official languages.
Parliament today passed a Bill for inclusion of Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi in the list of official languages in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to the existing Urdu and English.
The Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill, 2020 was passed by Rajya Sabha through voice vote. Lok Sabha had cleared the enactment on Tuesday.
Answering to a discussion on the Bill, Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said it was a long-standing interest of the individuals of Jammu and Kashmir that the language they talk ought to be remembered for the rundown of legitimate dialects.

Partaking in the discussion on the Bill, Naresh Gujral (SAD) named it “sad” that Punjabi was excluded from the Bill and encouraged the administration to reevaluate it.

He said 13 lakh Punjabis live in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mir Mohammad Fayaz (PDP) requested consideration of Gurjari, Punjabi and Pahari in the Bill, saying that the aphorism of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” was inadequate in the state.
“Incorporate Punjabi, Gurjari and Pahari so we win the trust of everybody in J&K,” he said.
Ramdas Athawale (RPI) communicated “backing to Dogri and Kashmiri dialects” and in his idyllic style said that daily will come when PoK will come to India.
Mamata Mohanta (BJD) said the bill will encourage a combination of the UT into the standard. Shamsher Singh Manhas (BJP) talked in Dogri. Surendra Singh Nagar (BJP) upheld the Bill.
