PNB scam accused: 1350 crores jewelery worth of Nirav and Mehul from Hong Kong were brought to India, weighing around two and a half tons
Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Wednesday brought 108 consignments of PNB scam accused Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi from Hong Kong. These consignments have gems worth Rs 1350 crore and weigh about two and a half tons. ED said that it brought the company’s warehouse with diamonds, pearls, and silver jewels Mumbai Hong Kong said. Of these, 32 consignments are associated with Nirav Modi and 76 Mehul Choksi.
Nirav and Mehul wanted to send gems to Dubai in 2018
The investigating agency said that Nirav and Mehul wanted to send these consignments from Hong Kong to Dubai in 2018. On the basis of information received from intelligence agencies, ED had started efforts to get these jewels from Hong Kong. The ED wanted that all these assets could be brought to India and seized in the PNB scam.
Nirav Modi is fighting a case against his extradition to Britain
Diamond traders Nirav Modi (48) and Mehul Chowki (60) are accused in the 14,000 crore PNB scam. Both of them fled India in 2018 before the investigation against them started. The ED had initiated an investigation against them in the case of money laundering. Nirav Modi was arrested in London last year. He is fighting a case against his extradition.
Mehul Choksi is currently in Antigua. He cites illnesses as not being able to come to India. Even before the scandal was exposed, Vigilance acquired Antigua-Barbuda citizenship.
