“Shades Of Emergency”: Ministers On Journalist Arnab Goswami’s Arrest

Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami was arrested today in a two-year-old suicide case in which investigations were reopened recently, the Mumbai police said. Several Union Ministers are among those who have condemned the arrest as an attack on press freedom, with Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar calling it a reminder of the Emergency.
“We censure the assault on press opportunity in Maharashtra. This isn’t the best approach to treat the Press. This helps us to remember the crisis days when the press was dealt with like this,” Prakash Javadekar tweeted as reports rose of Arnab Goswami’s capture.
Mr Goswami asserted he was mauled and attacked by the police at his Mumbai home prior to being driven into their van.
News office ANI cited him as saying that Mumbai Police “truly attacked his relative and father-in-law, child and spouse”. In recordings circulated by Republic TV, police officers were considered holding to be as they were endeavoring to remove him.
