Suspended IAS Officer Shivsankar Arrested As Agencies Probe Gold Smuggling Case
M Sivasankar had been questioned several times by the three central probe agencies amid allegations of close links with the accused in the gold smuggling case.
M Sivasankar, the former principal secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case linked to the gold smuggling case. The suspended officer was taken in custody for questioning by the probe agency Wednesday morning, soon after the Kerala High Court rejected his anticipatory bail request.
The Kerala gold pirating case – that has been the focus of the state’s governmental issues – is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and the Customs Department. It includes the sneaking of in any event 30 kg gold allegedly through discretionary directs in July. The gold worth ₹ 14.82 crores was seized at the Thiruvananthapuram air terminal from discretionary things intended to be delivered to the UAE department on July 5.
M Sivasankar had been questioned a few times by the three focal test organizations over charges of his nearby connections with the accused in the gold pirating case.
On Wednesday morning, authorities arrested him from the Triveni Nursing Home in Thiruvananthapuram, where he had been admitted.
The suspended IAS official had petitioned the court saying he was questioned by a few test offices for over 90 hours, yet they have “not submitted any report or implicating materials against him”, under the steady gaze of the court.
The applicant stated he feared that “under media promulgation and consistent interest for his capture”, the test offices would act under tension.
Be that as it may, the Enforcement Directorate and the Customs Department had unequivocally opposed the expectant bail request.
