Twitter’s explanation on showing Ladakh as part of China inadequate: Joint parliamentary panel chairperson
Microblogging site Twitter’s explanations to a parliamentary panel on showing Ladakh as part of China are inadequate and the act amounts to criminal offence attracting imprisonment of seven years, committee chairman Meenakshi Lekhi said on Wednesday.
Delegates of Twitter showed up before the joint board of trustees of parliament on the Data Protection Bill, 2019, and were addressed by the individuals on demonstrating Ladakh as a feature of China, Ms. Lekhi said.
“The council was consistent as it would see it that Twitter’s clarification on demonstrating Ladakh as a feature of China was lacking,” Ms. Lekhi told PTI.
Nonetheless, agents of Twitter told the board that the web-based media organization regards the sensitivities of India, she said.
“It’s anything but an issue of sensitivities just, it involves India’s sway and trustworthiness, indicating Ladakh as a component of China adds up to criminal offense which pulls in the detainment of seven years,” Ms. Lekhi said.
Authorities who ousted before the board for Twitter India included Shagufta Kamran, ranking director, public policy, Ayushi Kapoor, lawful advice, Pallavi Walia, policy communications, and Manvinder Bali, corporate security.
Authorities from the Ministry of Electronics, Information and Technology, and the Ministry of Law and Justice additionally dismissed before the board.
