Vettel tops Hamilton in last practice before qualifying
Sebastian Vettel had the quickest lap in the last practice before fitting the bill for the Australian Grand Prix on Saturday, finishing Lewis Hamilton’s keep running at the highest point of the time graphs in front of the Formula One season opener.
Vettel drove his Ferrari around the 5.303-kilometer Albert Park circuit in 1 minute, 23.380 seconds and was right around a half-second speedier than Mercedes match Valterri Bottas, who was second fastest in 1-23.859, and Hamilton in 1-23.870.
Vettel’s Ferrari colleague Kimi Raikkonen was partially under 1-24 to post the fourth-fastest time and was the main other driver to go under 1-25, in spite of halting on the track right on time in the session.
Michael Schumacher holds the stamp for the speediest dashing lap at the Melbourne circuit, recording 1-24.125 while in transit to triumph in 2004.
With desires that the new mechanical and tire controls will make the F1 autos speedier this year, that record could fall. Vettel’s opportunity was the speediest for a lap at the circuit.
The last practice session finished under warning when 18-year-old Canadian Lance Stroll went too wide and cut the divider on turn 11 with 10 minutes to go, harming his correct back wheel.
Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg pushed up into fifth, 1.683 seconds behind Vettel, and Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo was 6th.
The groups had two hours to adjust before the primary qualifying session of the season began at 5 p.m. neighborhood time (0600 GMT).
While most were tipping Hamilton as most loved to win a third Australian GP title, the British driver had picked Ferrari as the most loved in view of pre-season testing.
